Man on run for weeks arrested in Holland after head-on crash

HOLLAND, MICH. - A 32-year-old man on the run for several weeks now is in police custody at a Grand Rapids hospital following a crash.

The man, who police have not identified in a news release, was tracked down just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 11, to the Meijer store on Riley Street. Police say he was involved in some sort of retail fraud and ran off when an Ottawa County deputy approached.

The suspect got into his car at a nearby apartment and drove south on 120th Avenue. Witnesses noted to police the man was driving reckless; he drove into a center turn lane to pass other vehicles and hit another head on.

The other driver was taken to an area hospital for treatment, while the suspect was placed into police custody.

Several felony charges have been issued against the suspect for crimes in Holland, Allegan and Ottawa counties. They include: malicious destruction of property, felonious assault with a dangerous weapon and fleeing and eluding.
