New Red Flag Warning System PSA works to save lives

Holland releases anti-drowning PSA, part 2

HOLLAND, MICH. - According to the Great Lakes Surf Project, 98 people drowned in Lake Michigan in 2016. That's a record high.

That's why eight agencies along the lakeshore worked together to create a new PSA highlighting the Red Flag Warning System.

Red=Stop. Stay Out. Stay Alive.

It's a message that could save lives this summer. WZZM 13 spoke with members of the team who produced the PSA.

They say they wanted to do something that would resonate with teens and get them to consider how potentially tragic the decision to ignore a red flag warning would be.

They hope teenagers will make sure water conditions are safe before they swim.

You can learn more about the effort by visiting the city's website.
