No charges in crash that killed Holland Christian teacher

HOLLAND, MICH. - The Ottawa County Sheriff's Department says no criminal charges will be filed in connection to an accident that killed a Holland Christian high school teacher.

Kevin Witte, 37, was on his way to Holland Christian High School, Monday, Sept. 26, when the accident happened at the corner of 120th and Garden Avenue.

The driver of a Parkway Electric truck was hauling a 44-foot pole, when the driver turned left the pole swung into traffic and impaled the windshield of Witte's SUV.

Witte died from his injuries the next day.

The investigation determined that the Parkway driver did not commit a moving violation.

Parkway Electric was cited for load length. According to the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division, the longest a pole can be is 40 feet without having a permit and an escort.

The Sheriff's Department says more information will be released on Wednesday.
