Ultralight plane crashes at Ottawa County Fairgrounds

Officials in Ottawa county have identified a man injured in a ultra-light plane crash yesterday afternoon.

PARK TOWNSHIP, MICH. - One person was taken to an area hospital after crashing their ultralight plane at the Ottawa County Fairgrounds.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, across the street from the Park Township Airport, located at 1269 Ottawa Beach Road.

Michael Kerr, a 60-year-old Delton man, took off from the airport but started experiencing engine trouble, according to an Ottawa County Sheriff's Department news release. He piloted the aircraft to an open field at the fairgrounds, but the engine stopped working upon decent.

The aircraft hit some power lines and crashed to the ground. Police say the man suffered serious injuries.

The FAA has been contacted and will continue the investigation.
