Ionia DPS cruiser damaged in overnight crash

IONIA, MICH. - The passenger of a pick-up truck that crashed into an Ionia police cruiser was taken to the hospital for treatment last night.

The crash happened just after 9:30 p.m., Monday, March 13, while Officer Ben Fryc was responding to a call in the area of W. Washington Street and S. Dexter street in Ionia.

Investigators say the driver of the truck did not yield to the police vehicle, leading to the collision.

The injured passenger had to be extricated and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Neither driver was hurt, though both vehicles sustained substantial damage.

The crash remains under investigation.
