KALAMAZOO, MICH. - UPDATE: Kalamazoo Public Safety released the name of the one year old, Dasani Lynn Colbert, of Kalamazoo.
The crash remains under investigation at this time, and anyone with information is asked to contact KPS at 337-8139 or the Silent Observer at 343-2100.
The following clarification was also provided in the new press release:
Additionally, concerns have been raised in various social media outlets that this crash was related to police activities in the area. This is unfounded. A review of dispatch information and other resources showed there was not any police activity in the area. Public Safety asks for patience as a thorough and detailed investigation is completed.
One child is dead and two more are hurt after a crash in Kalamazoo this morning.
Just before 6 a.m. Friday, July 28, officers were called to a crash at the intersection of N Rose Street and W North Street. Once on scene, officers found a car and minivan had collided and five people needed medical attention.
The driver, and lone occupant of the car, was taken by ambulance to Bronson Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
The minivan was carrying an adult driver and three children. All four were taken by ambulance to Bronson Hospital.
One of the children died from their injuries. Another sustained "significant injuries." The driver and third child sustained non-life threatening injuries.
There is no word at this time what lead up to the crash or who is at fault. The crash remains under investigation.
