21-year-old man shot and killed near WMU

KDPS searching for man related to murder

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - Police are investigating an overnight homicide in Kalamazoo that happened near Western Michigan University's campus.

On Saturday, July 22 at approximately 02:15 a.m., Kalamazoo Public Safety responded to a shooting in the 800 block of Oakland Drive, near the northeast side of Western Michigan's campus.

Upon arrival, officers found a 21-year-old man in the street with a gunshot wound to his torso. The victim was transported to Bronson Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the suspect shot the victim during an altercation and then fled on foot. The circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation.

No arrests have been made, however police released these photos a person of interest to the investigation.
