Arrests made for more 'X-Train' activities in Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - Authorities in Kalamazoo made a series of arrests in relation to cruising and X-Train activities late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.

Around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday, Kalamazoo Public Safety received several calls from residents on North Sage Street, stating vehicles and people who didn't live in the area had taken over a parking lot there.

Several of the Sage Street residents complained about excessive noise and not being able to park near their homes because of the number of cars and people.

As the group moved, police began to target those involved in the X-Train. It took several hours as police wrote more than 20 citations, arrested individuals, collected guns and drugs and recovered a stolen vehicle.

During the operation, officers attempted to stop a vehicle at Ada and Westnedge, however the driver drove toward the officer, forcing the officer to jump out of the way. A short pursuit occurred that ended on Elm Street. A passenger in the vehicle had a .38 caliber revolver and illegal drugs.

Police arrested a 37-year-old Kalamazoo man for carrying a concealed weapon, felony firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and possession with intent to deliver controlled substances.

Police say several others involved in the X-Train were arrested on outstanding warrants, driving offenses and narcotics violations.

Kalamazoo Public Safety says it will continue to address neighborhood concerns and hopes to deter more X-Train activity with strict enforcement.

Anyone with information regarding the X-Train that could further the investigation is urged to contact Kalamazoo Public Safety at 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
