Comstock community says goodbye to Chief Ed Switalski

Thousands of people lined streets in the Kalamazoo area today to pay their respects to Comstock Fire Chief Ed Switalski.

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - Hundreds of first responders attended the funeral Wednesday of Comstock Fire Chief Ed Switalski after the 38-year veteran was struck by a vehicle and killed while responding to a call one week ago.

More than 100 police, fire and rescue departments processed through the streets of Kalamazoo before Switalski's tradition filled funeral at the Wings Event Center.

Before moving to Comstock Township in 2013 for a promotion, Switalski worked at an Illinois fire station for 34 years. Many out-of-state family and friends attended the service.

His niece and one of his daughters spoke at the funeral, recalling the chiefs' love for sports, family and service.
