Kalamazoo apartment fire forces people from their homes

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - Several people, including eight children, have been forced from their homes after an overnight apartment fire.

It happened around 1 a.m. Thursday, April 13, on Stockbridge Avenue between Fulford and Portage Streets. Investigators say when they got there, the second-floor apartment and the attic were on fire.

Crews quickly put out the fire, and contained most of the damage to those floors. But the apartments are still not livable at this time.

The Red Cross is stepping in to help those affected.

The cause of the fire is being investigated. If you have any information, cause Kalamazoo Public Safety at 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 343-2100.
