Kalamazoo DPS: 'Disturbance' leads to shots fired, 1 injured

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers were called to the 1400 block of North Westnedge Avenue just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 on reports of shots fired.

According to a news release, when officers arrived they learned a 26-year-old woman was shot and injured. Officers checked the area, but did not find her. They were advised that she left the scene.

When she was eventually located, the 26-year-old victim refused medical treatment for her minor gun shot wound to the arm.

Witnesses told police that before hearing the gun shots, a 'disturbance' between several people in the area occurred. The woman was shot while inside of a vehicle at the scene.

Police do not have any suspect information at this time.

KDPS is asking that anyone with information that might further the investigation call 269-337-8994 or Silent Observer at 269-343-2100.
