LAKE STATION, IND. - A Kalamazoo man is dead after the truck he was traveling in crashed and rolled on top of him.
Alfonzo Balboa II, 21, was sleeping in the backseat of a pickup truck when its driver lost control amid heavy rainfall just before 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, on I-80/94 near the north Ripley Street exit ramp, according to Indiana State Police.
The truck went off the highway, which caused it to roll several times. During this, Balboa -- not wearing a seat belt -- was ejected from the truck.
It then rolled on top of him at some point.
He was taken to an Indiana hospital with life-threatening injuries. State police say he died Saturday at an Illinois hospital.
The truck's driver, 21-year-old Luis Diaz, was not wearing a seat belt and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Front-seat passenger Pedro Diaz, 20, was wearing a seat belt and was transported to the hospital with not serious injuries.
Augstin Leal-Diaz, 21, another backseat passenger, was wearing a seat belt and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
