Kalamazoo officers deliver baby born on the way to hospital

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - A baby boy in West Michigan just couldn't wait to see the world. His parents were on the way to Bronson Hospital for his delivery on Saturday, July 15, but they couldn't quite make it on time.

Around 12:25 a.m. officers from Kalamazoo Public Safety were called to Bronson Park where a car had pulled over after a woman's water broke.

Sgt. Kristie Hofer was one of the first officers on the scene and recognized the woman was having contractions and the head of her baby was starting to crown.

She and Officer Beth Fountain delivered the healthy boy as paramedics from Life EMS arrived. The mother and father were taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Kalamazoo Public Safety extended their best wishes to the Baker family in a release early Saturday.
