Kalamazoo shootings suspect to stand trial in June

KALAMAZOO, MICH. - The former Uber driver accused of going on a shooting rampage in Kalamazoo will stand trial for murder this June.

Prosecutors say the trial of 46-year-old Jason Dalton will begin June 13 following at least two days of jury selection. Dalton is accused in the murders of six people -- Judy Brown, Barbara Hawthorn, Mary Jo Nye, Mary Lou Nye, Rich Smith and Tyler Smith -- in the Feb. 20, 2016 shootings.

Two other people, Tiana Carruthers and Abbie Kopf were injured.

A Kalamazoo judge will hold a hearing in April on a defense motion to throw out Dalton's statements to police after his arrest.

Dalton has been found competent to stand trial while his lawyers say they will seek an insanity defense.
