Police find man hiding from them in leaf pile

Man hides from police in leaf pile

PORTAGE, MICH. - If you can believe it, a man who ran from police apparently thought a leaf pile was a good place to hide, but a K-9 unit tracked him down.

According to the Portage Police Department, officers were trying to pull over a minivan late Tuesday, Dec. 5. for having an improper license plate.

Around 11:45 p.m. the man was driving north on Portage Road when officers saw him. When they tried to pull them over, before he drove faster, and tried to get on eastbound I-94. But he lost control and hit a curb, causing bad damage to the minivan.

That's when the man got out and made a run for it. Police eventually found him a quarter mile east of the crash, hiding in that leaf pile.

While investigating, officers found out the man had outstanding felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants. He's now in custody and will face charges for resisting and obstructing police, and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Officers from the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety helped provide a perimeter in the area while the K-9 unit was tracking the suspect.
