Kent County now has 11 Zika virus cases

GRAND RAPIDS - Health workers are updating the number of cases of the Zika virus in Kent County.
When WZZM 13 News inquired late Wednesday about Kent County numbers, we were told there were four cases, but the Kent County Health Department had not received its updated numbers from the state.
The health department now confirms there are 11 Zika cases in Kent County.  There are nine in Ottawa County, and one in Muskegon County.
Experts say al of the cases so far involve people who contracted the illness while traveling to places like Mexico and Central America. But it's a health concern because there have been instances elsewhere of person-to-person transmission. People with Zika are also advised to avoid sexual contact for six months after contracting the illness.
