YMCA Service Club holds annual White Elephant Sale

KENTWOOD, Mich. (WZZM) -- The Grand Rapids YMCA Service Club is holding its 76th annual White Elephant Sale, raising funds for the YMCA's campground.

The event opens at 8 a.m. Friday at the former Family Fare store at the corner of 52nd Street and Eastern Avenue in Kentwood.

The service club uses the sale to raise money for Camp Manitou-Lin, the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids' camp near Middleville. Proceeds go into capital improvements at the camp and scholarships for children and teenagers.

Many people line up at 7 a.m. the day it opens to get first crack at the sale.

Volunteers from the service club begin stocking the store ten weeks in advance of the sale. Many of those volunteers have worked the sale for decades.

Early bird admission (8:00-9:30 a.m.) is $5. There's free admission after 9:30 a.m.

The sale is also open 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
