Girl falls from paddle board, drowns in Lake Michigan

OCEANA COUNTY, MICH. - A 10-year-old girl is dead after drowning in Lake Michigan.

According to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Department, first responders were called to Charles Mears State Park and Pentwater Pier to search for the girl who fell off a paddle board around 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19.

While first responders were on the way to the scene, they were told the victim had been recovered. She was pulled from the water but the effort to revive her was unsuccessful.

The victim of this incident was a Hannah Harris from Lansing.

The department says she was not wearing a life jacket.

Agencies involved were Pentwater Police, Pentwater Fire, Pentwater First Responders, Oceana E.M.S., Michigan D.N.R., State Police, Oceana County Sheriff's and Oceana County Victim's Assistance Advocates.
