MANISTEE, MICH. - An autopsy is underway for a 36-year-old woman killed early Sunday during a fire. Early Monday morning, investigators identified the woman as Tiffanie Marie Brumberg.
A passerby reported the seeing smoke and flames around 12:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, at a home near Vine and 12th streets in Manistee, according to a news release. While en route, firefighters were told that four people might be inside the house.
Two captains entered the burning house and found the woman in a downstairs room.
Officials say she was the only person inside the home at the time. Her children were staying with their father, the release states.
Also early Monday morning, firefighters said the woman was a mother of five children, not four as was previously reported.
No foul play is suspected, but officials still are investigating to determine how the fire started. They say they believe it started in the bedroom, close to where the woman was found in the home.
