Life EMS exploring Hesperia ambulance options

HESPERIA, MICH. - Leaders of Life EMS ambulance service want people who live in Hesperia to know an ambulance will still respond when they call 911 with an emergency.

There are concerns in the community because pro-med is closing their Hesperia station at the end of June. It could mean a delay for patients while they  wait for an ambulance to come from Fremont or Shelby, but the head of Grand Rapids based life EMS says they are studying the situation and talking to community leaders about maintaining a high level of coverage.

"We hope we will be able to work with the communities to come up with an even better ability to serve the area and have resources right there in the community," said Mark Meijer of Life EMS.

Life EMS already serves areas around Hesperia from their Fremont ambulance station.  The Oceana county emergency ambulance service also responds from Shelby. Pro Med says they  are pulling out of Hesperia because it is not profitable.
