Lowell Police Chief on paid leave while under investigation by MSP

LOWELL, MICH. - The Lowell Police Chief is on administrative leave while being investigated for "possible misconduct."

The Lowell City Manager, Mike Burns, says that Police Chief Steve Bukala went on paid administrative leave on Monday, April 17. 

Burns tells us that credible information was given to the city about possible misconduct. Bukala is under investigation by Michigan State Police and will be on leave for an indefinite period of time. 

Michigan State Police says that once the report is finished, it will be forwarded to the Prosecutor's Office for review.

Sgt. Christopher Hurst will act as Lowell Police Chief during Bukala's leave.

Bukala has been with the Lowell Police Department since 1995, he was appointed to Police Chief in November 2013.
