KEENE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM)— A group focused on rebuilding a West Michigan landmark is announcing a new fundraising festival for Ionia County.
The Whites Bridge Historical Society plans to hold the inaugural BridgeFest Oct. 3-4 at the Ionia County Fairgrounds. The event will feature locally brewed craft beer as well as live performances from a variety of musical acts across Michigan, including The Verve Pipe, Fauxgrass, Hi-Ker, Mystic Dub, Dragon Wagon, Joe Hertler and the Rainbow Seekers, Papa Jaxon, The Outer Vibe and Vertical Bridge.
Proceeds from BridgeFest will go toward building a replica of the Whites Bridge, which was burned down by arsonists on July 7, 2013. The rebuild project is expected to cost approximately $450,000.
A post from Rebuild Whites Bridge's Facebook page says the bridge was a regular part of many lives.
"We're in it because we weren't going to settle for the bridge being gone forever… we want more memories made with Whites Bridge and not with a sidewalk," the post says.
