Man charged after Easter Sunday standoff in Allegan County

OTSEGO TOWNSHIP, MICH - An Allegan County man is facing a number of charges, after a stand-off on Easter Sunday.  27-year-old Michael Vandenberg appeared in court Monday and was charged with "resisting and obstructing a police officer" and "being a felon in possesion of a gun".

Sunday morning, sheriff's deputies were called to a home in Otsego Township on a report of a man with a gun.  When officers arrived they started communications with the people inside the house.  Two of the three inside came out and were taken into custody. They told deputies there was another person in the home with outstanding warrants that didn't want to come out.

When Vandenburg refused to leave the home, the SWAT team was then called in and took over negotiations, Vandenburg surrendered a short time later and was arrested.  Police found a stolen handgun during a search of the home.
