Congressman Amash: 'I've never missed a vote'

GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) - Congressman Justin Amash ran unopposed in Tuesday night's Republican primary, but he will face some competition for his 3rd District seat in November.

Former Kent County Commissioner and Judge Steve Pestka will run as a Democrat against Amash. During Wednesday night's GOP Unity Reception, Amash defended his record in Congress, saying it shows he's an independent politician.

"I have the most independent voting record of any freshman in Congress. I explain every vote I take, and I've never missed a vote. The people of the district have been coming up to me and thanking me for that. I've been really appreciative of that when they run into me at places," said Amash.

The 3rd Congressional District stretches from Cedar Springs in Kent County to Marshall in Calhoun County.
