GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - If you live in Grand Rapids and the metro area, you could see a water rate hike in the new year.
City commissioners learned details Tuesday, Nov. 15, of a recently released study of the water system. It recommends a 4.13 percent increase for water service and a 0.26 increase for sewer.
The average customer would pay $2.88 more each quarter.
City leaders say additional money is needed to pay for improvements to the system.
If passed, the rate hike will also affect people in Walker, Kentwood, Cascade Township, Grand Rapids Township and Tallmadge Township.
The city commission will vote on the proposal on Dec. 13.
