Take advantage of 'National Take a Hike Day' in Kent County

Kamady Rudd talked with Kate Meyer from the Kent County Parks Department about the last push for outdoor hiking before winter and skiing season arrive.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - West Michigan has plenty of parks and trails you can take advantage of on this National Take a Hike Day!

With the wide range of trails in our backyard, hikers vary from amateur to intermediate.

The middle of the woods isn't the only place you can find decent trails. If you have errands to run but still want to stay active, Executive Director of the Kent County Parks Foundation Kate Meyer suggests parking at John Ball Zoo, hopping on one of the Kent County trails and head to Byron Center to do some shopping.

"I think people assume if you want to go hiking you have to be this outdoor enthusiast, and really we have so many accessible trails that you can take a 10-minute lunch break if you need to," Meyer said.
