Barking dogs save man from South Haven house fire

SOUTH HAVEN TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A home in South Haven Township was left "extensively damaged" after a fire Monday night.

According to the South Haven Area Emergency Services, the fire was at a home on M-43 near 16th Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Monday.

The garage and breezeway were fully engulfed in flames with fire headed towards the home when firefighters got there.

The homeowner and his dogs were able to get out safely, and the homeowner was even able to move his car out of the garage.

He told firefighters that it was the dog's barking that alerted him to the fire.

SHAES says the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
