Police will have extra patrols will be out this Labor Day weekend as part of the state's Drive Sober of Get Pulled Over campaign. The concentrated enforcement campaign began August 15th and runs through Monday. Officers will be looking for impaired drivers and those not wearing seatbelts.
Labor Day is traditionally the deadliest three-day holiday weekend for Michigan drivers. Nearly a third of fatal crashes involve alcohol or drugs. 15 traffic deaths were recorded over the holiday weekend last year.
The deadliest Labor Day weekend in recent years was in 2010, when 21 people died statewide. Fatal accidents have been trending downwards in recent years.
