Man bow hunting in Mason County killed after falling from tree stand

GRANT TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A man was found dead by family members when he didn't return from an afternoon hunt.

Robert Jankowski, a 56-year-old East Lake resident, was found by family members when he didn't return home after a hunting trip Saturday, Oct. 29, according to a Mason County Sheriff's Department news release.

Police say Jankowski had been bow hunting near Morton and Modjeski roads. It's believed he fell from the stand.

He was not secured by a harness and was pronounced dead at the scene, the release states.

On Saturday, a man helping to build a tree stand with friends and family in Newaygo County fell from the unit and died.
