LEE TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A 1-year-old boy was killed in what police say appears to be a tragic accident Saturday in a rural area of Allegan County.
The grandparents were watching over Brentyn Allen Combs-Easterday, their grandson, while his mother was at work on Saturday, April 1, according to a sheriff's office news release.
Police say around 7:50 p.m., the Combs-Easterday was being held by his grandmother while his grandfather got into his truck to leave. The child broke away from his grandmother and was struck by his grandfather's truck at a slow speed.
When deputies arrived on scene, the child was unresponsive and not breathing. First responders attempted to revive him, however, those efforts were unsuccessful.
The Allegan County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction team continues to investigate the accident, but say that it appears to be a tragic accident with no foul play suspected. Alcohol is not considered a factor.
