Two dead following home invasion shootout in Sanilac County

GREENLEAF TOWNSHIP, MICH. - Two men are dead and two men have been arrested following an early morning shootout in a Sanilac County home. 

A man called 911 about 5 a.m. Sunday to report three men had broken into his home in the 4300 block of Holbrook Road in Greenleaf Township, according to the Sanilac County Sheriff Department. 

The man told police the suspects shot him in the leg and he returned gunfire. 

When officers arrived, one suspect was found dead in the home. The homeowner told police two others had fled the scene on foot. 

Officers also found a vehicle in the ditch on Holbrook and Germania roads. A man was found dead with a gunshot wound inside the vehicle, which had been reported stolen out of the Flint area in October. 

Sheriff Garry Biniecki said two men have been taken into custody and the homeowner was taken to a hospital for treatment. 

Biniecki said the investigation is ongoing and all suspects are in custody.

He said another man was inside the home at the time of the home invasion and shootout and was not injured. 

Additional information has not yet been released. 

Members of the Tuscola County Sheriff Department, Cass City Police Department, Michigan State Police, St. Clair County Sheriff Department, Sanilac County Road Commission and Bingham EMS also responded to the scenes.
