A Dominican twist on National Taco Day

Dan Harland and Lauren Stanton talk to the folks from Mi Casa Restaurante in Grand Rapids about a special twist on tacos for the holiday.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - Many families celebrate Taco Tuesday weekly. But on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, the tradition will be even more important, because it's National Taco Day.

We invited the folks from Mi Casa Restaurante to our WZZM 13 studios to show us a Dominican twist on tacos.

Raul Alvarez and Rosibel Madera showed us the recipe, which includes steak, cilantro, onions, pico de gallo, guacamole, red salsa and limes.

They also brought in other Dominican favorites including passionfruit juice and mofongo. Mofongo is a twice-fried green plaintain with pork rinds and sauce that makes the plantains a bit moist.

Mi Casa is closed on Tuesday, but they're open every other day of the week. They're at 334 Burton Street SW between U.S. 131 and Buchanan.
