Body recovered after water search near Muskegon State Park

Man drowns in Muskegon Lake

MUSKEGON, MICH. - The Muskegon County Sheriff's department tells us a body has been recovered after a water search Friday in Muskegon Lake near the Muskegon State Park. 

A rescue search started around 2:30 p.m. WZZM 13 confirmed that a body was recovered just before 9 p.m. Friday.  

According to the Ken Sanford, the Muskegon County Undershriff the body was recovered at 8:15 p.m. and the victim has been identified as Mark Allen Finkler, 60, of Twin Lake. 

Police say the man swam into the lake after a boat that drifted from the shore and he went under. The boat was located with no one aboard.

The Coast Guard, Muskegon County Sheriff and Fire, along with the Michigan State Police all responded to the call. Five rescue boats were called in as well as a helicopter.
