Curfew compliance check in Muskegon

MUSKEGON, MICH. - Police in Muskegon are running a curfew compliance check on June 23, 2017. Children found violating the curfew ordinance will be issued a civil infraction ticket or they could entered into the Safe Days, Quiet Nights program. It is designed to keep curfew violators out of the criminal justice system.\

Officers will bring curfew violators to the Muskegon Police Department and call the child's guardian. Members of the prosecutors office are volunteering their time to meet with the violators and their parents. They will discuss a curfew contract, where the violator has to agree not to break curfew again and "to meet with a mediator to discuss ways in which they can spend their time productively."

The curfew ordinance says children under 12 need to be in by 10:00 p.m. and children under 17 need to be in by 11:00 p.m.
