Fire destroys cottage in Norton Shores

NORTON SHORES, MICH. - Norton Shores fire fighters are trying to determine what started a fire that destroyed a cottage at a Christian groups cottage last week. Shortly before midnight Thursday, July 13, 2017 fire crews were called to a cottage at the Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference compound on Channel Avenue near Lake Harbor Drive.

Investigators say the three people inside escaped unharmed after someone walking down the road spotted the fire, and warned them of the fire. When firefighters arrived, flames had consumed the building.

Federal and state fire investigators are on the way to the area. The fire started on the exterior of the home causing more than $300,000 in damage. A nearby home was destroyed by arson in September 2016 and there have been other fires in the area over the last few years.
