Muskegon man sentenced for leaving baby in dumpster

MUSKEGON, MICH. - A Muskegon man will spend one year in jail for leaving his infant son in a dumpster.

Investigators say it happened around 6:00 p.m. on July 23, 2016. A supervisor at the Muskegon Rescue Mission was taking boxes out to the dumpster when he heard the baby crying.  When the supervisor did not see anyone around, he looked inside the dumpster and found the baby.

On Monday, November 15, 33-year-old Andrew Wingett received 12 months in jail and 36 months probation on charges of second degree child abuse and being an habitual offender.
