Police seek witnesses to deadly pedestrian crash

NORTON SHORES, Mich. (WZZM) – Norton Shores police are looking for witnesses to a deadly pedestrian crash early Wednesday morning.

Police are now identifying the victim as 57-year-old Albert White III of Muskegon. He was hit by a minivan around 1 a.m. at Seaway Drive and Norton Avenue in Norton Shores. The driver, 63-year-old Charles Benjamin Fles Jr. of Muskegon, tells police he had a green light at Norton Avenue when White was crossing Seaway Drive. Fles was approaching the intersection when he spotted White; he tells police he tried to stop, but couldn't avoid hitting the man.

Police say the man suffered a head injury, and was taken to Mercy Health Partners Hackley Hospital, where he died.

The crash is under investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call Norton Shores police at (231) 733-2691.
