Muskegon Reeths-Puffer couldn't get much going offensively in the first half against Muskegon Orchard View, tailing 6-0 at halftime. Things got worse for the Rockets before they got better as Cardinals senior Treshawn Kelly returned the second half kickoff 85-yards for a touchdown and a 12-0 lead.
After both teams turned the ball over in the third quarter, the Rockets finally got on the scoreboard early in the 4th quarter as Nate McCrary found the endzone with a short TD run that made it a 12-7 deficit. The Cardinals responded as quarterback Sam Mitchell stepped up in the pocket and fired a perfect strike to Kelly for a 62 yard touchdown connection that gave Orchard View a 19-7 lead.
McCrary returned the ensuing kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown, breaking several tackles along the way to make it a 19-14 game. The Rockets got the ball back but turned it over on downs with just over 3 minutes to play.
However, Orchard View couldn't run out the clock and McCrary got free for a 71-yard touchdown catch with 2:07 left to give Reeths-Puffer the lead for good.
McCrary led the Rockets with 85 yards on 19 carries and 71 yards receiving on one catch. Theo Stevenson led RP’s defense with nine tackles.
