Suspect in Muskegon bank robbery arrested

MUSKEGON, Mich. (WZZM) -- Police say they have arrested the man accused of robbing the Fifth Third Bank at the corner of Dykstra and Whitehall roads around 9 a.m. Friday.

Police accuse 32-year-old Chad Martin of using a knife to threaten a teller and demand cash before driving off southbound on Whitehall Road in a gold Pontiac.

He faces an armed robbery charge and a fourth-time habitual offender charge.

He was arrested at his home on West Creekwood Drive in Muskegon Township. Police also recovered what they describe as a large sum of money.

Several agencies helped in the investigation, including:

  • Muskegon Township PD
  • North Muskegon PD
  • Norton Shores PD
  • Whitehall PD
  • Muskegon PD
  • Muskegon County Sheriff's Office
  • Federal Bureau of Investigations

No one was hurt in the robbery. Because of the incident's proximity to some schools in the Reeths Puffer district, seven of the district's eight buildings temporarily went on "soft lockdown" and locked all their entrances.
