Search called off for reported missing swimmer in Lake Michigan

The search for a reported missing person in Lake Michigan has been called off.

MUSKEGON, MICH. - The search for a reported missing person in Lake Michigan has been called off as crews no longer think anyone is in the water.

Crews, including the Coast Guard, were called to respond around 3:40 p.m. Saturday, Jun 17, to Pere Marquette Beach. It's was reported to authorities that a 30-year-old man swimming just off shore was seen struggling and did not come back inland, according to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard launched a helicopter and a boat responded to the scene to assist county authorities.

Before 8 p.m., the search ended because crews don't believe anyone is missing. There have been no reports of missing people, and no one has stuck around the beach, the Coast Guard says.

Lake Michigan wave heights today along the Muskegon County shoreline is around 1 foot, with a water temperature of 64 degrees.
