Muskegon Police still looking for suspect in shooting death

Teenager Murdered in Muskegon

MUSKEGON, MICH. - Police in Muskegon and Muskegon Heights are looking for the suspects in a deadly shooting Wednesday afternoon.  Officers found the 23-year-old victim in the driver's seat of a car on Peck near Marsh Field around 2:30.

Investigators say the incident started with a dispute in Muskegon Heights.  Police say the victim was driving north on Peck, when people in a dark colored van allegedly shot at him near Delano St.  The two vehicles continued north until police say the suspects shot at the victim's car near Holbrook.

Witnesses say the car with four people inside was hit by maybe a dozen or more bullets.  They add that a woman in the car, possibly the victim's older sister, jumped or fell out before it rolled to a stop.  She was taken to the hospital.  After the car hit a pole and stopped, they say two male passengers got our and ran away.

Police say the driver died at the scene.

A relative says the man was trying to get his life together, “He was a small, mild meek guy,” recalls Thea Bailey. “He is our nephew.”

“They called him ‘Lil’Man’, that was his nickname,” says Bailey.  “That's what everyone called him. It is just devastating.”

A joint investigation into the shooting is being handled by investigators from Muskegon, Muskegon Heights, and the Michigan State Police.  If anyone has any information on this shooting they are asked to call the Muskegon Heights Police Department at (231) 733-8900, City of Muskegon Police Departments at (231) 724-6750, or Silent Observer at 231-722-7463.
