Friends, family host 3rd annual 'Remembering Rebekah Bletsch 5K'

It's been three years since Rebekah Bletsch was found shot to death while jogging in Dalton Township.

MUSKEGON, MICH. - It's been three years since Rebekah Bletsch, 36, was found shot to death while jogging in Dalton Township. Prosecutors believe Jeffrey Willis, 47 is responsible for her murder.

On Sunday, June 18, Bletsch's family held their annual 5K to remember the woman.

Although it's been a few years, Jessica Josephson said her sister's death still ignites tremendous anger and sadness.

"He can't take away from the value of my sister her worth, who she was as a person," Josephson said. "We will never forget to Becky and it's sad that we have attached to Becky, that we have such an evil person attached to what happened to her."

Which is why Josephson and her family created this 5K to shift the focus to Bletsch's life.

"It's a way of telling the entire community that we're not defined by an evil act, that we are here to show that there is greater love than there is evil in this community, infinitely greater," participant Harry Brown said.

Decked out with T-shirts and pins, family and friends took to the trail.

"I noticed when everyone started to take off on to the trail, the sun really came out and I was like, 'Yeah, she's here,' I know she's still with us," Josephson said.

However for Josephson, the anger against her sister's accused killer is still very real.

"It's going to be a while before that goes away, we have a long road ahead of us still, we still need those answers and that justice for her, it's not going to be over anytime soon," Josephson said.

So for now, she'll continue to keep Bletsch's memory alive.

"I love her and I miss her, can't say anything more than that," Josephson said.

The money raised from the T-shirt sales and raffle prizes will go to a college fund for Bletsch's daughter and Puppy Breath Rescue in Grand Haven.
