82-year-old woman hit, killed in grocery store parking lot on Thanksgiving Day

Muskegon County deputies are investigating a deadly crash involving a car and a pedestrian that killed an 82-year-old woman.

EGELSTON TOWNSHIP, MICH. - An 82-year-old woman is dead after she was hit by a car at a Muskegon-area grocery store on Thanksgiving Day.

The Muskegon County Sheriff's Office says Betty Jean Wolovlek was hit at E&A Grocery on East Apple Avenue in Egelston Township just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23.

Wolovlek was taken to Mercy Health where she later died from her injuries.

Deputies are not releasing any information at this time about the driver, or saying if any charges have been filed.

Betty Wolovlek's son Frank tells WZZM the female driver who hit his mother remained at the store until police arrived. Frank says family members have heard the driver may have backed out of a parking space and over Betty.

Family members are asking anyone who saw what happened to call the Muskegon County Sheriff's Office at 231-724-6351.

The crash remains under investigation.
