Africa's Child thrift store asking for donations after smoke damages building

GRAND RAPIDS TOWNSHIP, MICH. - An early morning fire at a Grand Rapids grocery store left surrounding businesses with lots of clean up, and one of them needs your help.

Ken's Fruit Market on Plainfield Avenue near 4 Mile Road caught fire Thursday morning.

The fire was contained to the grocery store, but nearby shops have smoke damage -- including the Africa's Child thrift store.

An outside company was hired to clean up Ken's, but it is not cost effective to pay to clean up Africa's Child, which raises money to support communities in Zambia.

They are now asking for donations.

You can drop off shoes, clothing, furniture, electronics, toys or books to the thrift shop between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10.
