Boy recognized for planning mobile food pantry

JAMESTOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) -- Eight-year-old Owen Ronning had an unusual request for his birthday -- he asked for a mobile food pantry to help distribute food.

Tuesday, the fourth-grader was honored at the Many Hands Against Hunger luncheon for collecting money to rent a food truck.

He used that food truck that to distribute 5,000 pounds of food to 115 families.

Jason Ronning says of Owen, "He stood up when he saw other people help our family when we were in need, when I was in an accident. He really saw how people can help out, and that's what really lit the fire for him."

Owen isn't done giving.

Right now, he is raising money for another food pantry truck and hopes to make it a yearly tradition.
