Husband and wife on mission to honor graves of 40,000 soldiers

Wreaths pay tribute to military veterans

Don and Joan Gulliksen are on a mission to decorate more than 40,000 headstones at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery before Christmas. The couple has raised money for more than 15,000 headstones this year and they want to grow that number before Monday's deadline.

"There are a few more hours and we want to take every moment we can," Joan said.

The couple has been working with Wreaths Across America for the last 10 years, an organization that decorates service members headstones for the holidays.

It cost $15 to sponsor a wreath. The program operates across the country and Joan and Don are in charge of it in Dallas.

The couple says it's hard work but it's the right thing to do and they are happy to do it.

"We just want to honor these men and women anyway we can," Don said.

Volunteers will lay the wreaths on the headstones Dec. 17. For information on how you can donate go to the website by clicking here or call 877-385-9504.
