'Petal It Forward' helps to uplift the mood of strangers

You may have heard of "paying it forward" -- someone does something good for you, but instead of thanking them, you do good for someone else.

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. - It is Petal It Forward Day and our Flower Guy J. Schwanke from UBloom.com helped to make the Society of American Florists' initiative happen.

Scientific research from Rutgers University and Harvard University has proved the presence of flowers has an uplift your mood and make you happier.

On Wednesday, Oct. 19, the My West Michigan team: Jennifer Pascua, Lauren Stanton and Catherine Behrendt along with Kim Carson spent time by Rosa Parks Circle downtown handing out free flowers from Sun Valley Floral Farms.

The idea was to give random strangers two bouquet flowers; one for them to keep and the other for them to give away.

The group gave away 200 bunches and put a smile on the faces of many.
