CALEDONIA, MICH. - With the holiday season in full swing, one of the most popular seasonal donation programs Toys for Tots, is back again for many businesses and schools to gather toys and funds for less-fortunate children.
The Farmers employees in Grand Rapids are participating in their Toys for Tots drive for the eighth consecutive year. In the past five years, Farmers Insurance has collected more that 1,700 toys and several thousand dollars in donations.
This year, dozens of employees volunteered alongside local members of the 1st Battalion, 24th Marine Regiment to collect toys on Thursday, Dec. 1 for their official event. From 7:30 to 10 a.m., employees and other community members brought in toys and donations to the Farmers Insurance location in Caledonia, Mich.
"We were thinking back to that very first year, when it just started with a box of toys and then the next year it was a couple boxes," Mark Cok, the CEO of Farmers Specialty.
"This year, we've added a 50% increase in our goal to go from a thousand [toys] to fifteen-hundred [toys] this year, and it keeps growing and growing."
