2 women hurt after car hits tree

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP, MICH. - A woman from Kentwood and another from Belmont are in the hospital after a car crashed into a tree late Thursday, July 6.

Deputies were called out around 9:48 p.m. to the corner of Pine Island Drive and 9 Mile Road. They found a 2004 Buick LaSabre that had been going north when it crashed into a tree.

Plainfield Township Fire Chief Jeff Drake says the car hit the tree so hard that the engine was pushed into the front seat of the car.

The passenger, 32-year-old Taren Brandt of Belmont was able to get out herself. Her condition is not clear. Plainfield Township firefighters say her injuries were minor but Kent County deputies say they were serious.

The driver, 30-year-old Anna Marsiglia of Kentwood was trapped in the car for about 35 minutes before being rescued by the jaws of life. She is being treated for serious injuries.

Both women are at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

It's not clear what caused the car to veer off course.
