Power restored to thousands in Kent County

KENT COUNTY, MICH. - UPDATE: Consumers Energy Spokesperson Roger Morgenstern says the power is back on for thousands of customers after an  equipment failure at a substation.  He says the power was turned back on at 4:38 p.m.

He says the exact cause of the outage is still under investigation.


ORIGINAL STORY: Consumers Energy says more than 9,000 customers are without power this afternoon.  Spokesperson Roger Morgenstern says the outage is from an issue with a 46,000 volt line coming from a substation.

He says there are Consumers Energy crews working on the problem at the substation.  The outage runs along the East Beltline/ Northland Dr. from just North of Knapp St. to Kroes St., it approaches Pettis Ave to the East and Hunsberger to the West.

Mercy Health Rockford Urgent Care is closed because of the power outage.  They say patients can go to the office at 1471 East Beltline for Urgent Care.

Power is expected to be restored around 7:00 this evening.
